Packing and Baking

Bo and I are packing to head to the beach for the weekend. This has become a family tradition since the year after my grandmother passed away on labor day weekend. My parents, brother, sister-in-law, nephew, Bo and I will spend a fun filled long weekend under the sun or rain if the hurricanes have anything to do with it. See you all on Monday or Tuesday. Happy Labor Day.

Cookies to take to the beach.

Golfing Knickers

Bo has decided that he wanted be this for Halloween.
I could buy these pants from http://www.golfknickers.com/index.html, but what fun would that be when I can sew.

I have two options:
First option Simplicity 4059. I like it a lot especially the way the legs puff out, but the wasteband has some issues. Second option is Vogue 1753. This pattern would require me to cut off the legs an add elastic to make it puff out. I'm leaning that way.
If you have any advice I would appreciate it.

Auburn Coasters

Messy Karen is generously giving me the Ace's Up by Alex Henry fabric that she posted on Saturday. I showed it Bo, and he thought it was cool. I offered to make him napkins or coaster for his poker night. Bo opted for coasters. (Bo actually had a set of Lighthouse coaster when we met, but more impressive than that is that he uses them religiously.) His choice was no surprise to me.

I knew I wanted to make a masculine coaster. Since I didn't think the rick rack and circular design of Juliette Lanver's Roller Coasters would do. I have made these coasters before and I thought that they were a little smaller than I wanted for Bo and his friends.

The inspiration for the size came from Heather Bailey's Square Deal Pin Cushion. I used the pattern piece used to make the top and the bottom of the pincushion because I liked its size so much when I made the pin cushion last night. I know next time that I will make my coasters much larger than this.

The ones I made tonight were made from some scraps I had. I figured with the start of football season this Saturday that Auburn Coasters would be cool. Since Bo and I are a divided house these will more than likely go to Brother and Sister-in-law.
I hope to make another set tomorrow night with some different ideas I have.

Thanks for all of the insperation. It has made me push my sewing bounderies.

Cold and Rainy

It was just one of those nights! I didn't want to anything except put on my pajamas, curl up on the couch, and veg out in front of the t.v. That's exactly what I did. I will get back to sewing tomorrow night.

UFO, Pin Cushion, and Pumpkins

I have been inspired by several blogs lately that have been working on UFOs. This UFO has been partial finished for at least 4 years now. It is a broken dish pattern out of a Fons and Porter magazine. Of course I can't find the magazine any more. I know that the pattern calls for a border, but I'm not sure what size so I guess I will wing it. I am also open to ideas. I hope to have this finished for my December for my mother's b-day. She hardly ever reads my blog, but my dad does. (So please don't tell her.)

I know what your thinking, "What is Bo doing with a pumpkin in August?" My Father-in-law was kind enough to grow some pumpkins for me this year. He had never planted any before and he planted them early. The pumpkins will never last until Halloween. So Bo and I are baking them. Luck for me I love anything with pumpkin.

Pumpkins in the oven. If you know any good pumpkin recipes please let me know.

I wanted to make something tonight, but I couldn't decide what to make. I ended up making the Heather Bailey Square Deal Pin Cushion. It went together fairly easy. I plan to give this one to a sewing friend, and may end up making more.

Hurricane Faye!

We have received a steady amount of rain enough that now our roof decided to start leaking!!! It isn't that old of a roof because Bo had it replaced after Hurricane Ivan. We will see how it works out.

Roll Tide!!!

Bo is modeling an apron that I made for his cousin for Christmas. I plan on putting this apron with a meat thermometer, BBQ sauce, and a basting brush. Bo said he might actually want apron for himself. We'll see if I have time to make one for him.

Great Givaways

Here are some great give aways:

Stacy listed Juicy Bits give away on her blog, and for good reason. This is one incredible give away.

Over at Messy Karen, she is giving away fabric every Saturday for six weeks. This Saturday will be the third week. You don't have to do anything to enter except ask her nicely for it. If you look at last Saturday's give away, I'm waiting for the polka dot roosters to come in the mail. I hope to make a smocked bishop with it.

Quilt Taffy is generously giving away not one but four copies of Martha Stewart Kids- Back To School Magazine. Since I don't have any kids I decided not to enter, but pass the information on to you.

Grosgrain is giving away absolutely adorable Party Frock.

Because I'm a Princess - That's Why?

I started working on this skirt last night, but instead I decided to sew the tip of my finger instead. I'm okay.
The skirt was Simplicity 7531 in a Disney Princess fabric. It was on sale at Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago. I never go there! But when I saw it I knew I need it for my upcoming trip. I also thought I could enter it in The Monkey Foot Design and Stacy Sews Sew Along.

Fabric and Pattern.

The finished skirt. I hope I have to take it in a little bit before we leave. Only in Disney World I could wear this skirt.

Just a picture of me goofing off.

Call Me Vera

My great aunt Vera makes everything! She was Martha Stewart before Martha was born.
So when I saw I Have To Say link to how to make your own laundry detergent on July 16Th, I thought for sure it would be something my Aunt Vera would try. Therefor I should try it too.

This is a shredded bar of soap. I didn't have a cheese grater so I used a serrated knife.

Me stirring the pot to make sure the soap melted completely.

Completely melted soap and water. I lost Bo at this point because Ice Road Truckers came on.

This is my finished project. Just waiting to be used.

But I watch HGTV!

No it wasn't all a dream?
This is how I found BO Sunday afternoon. He was tired because we had a really, really busy weekend which included tiling our kitchen and bathroom floors and installing two toilets.
This is what our two new toilets look like. Not really what I wanted to spend my money on, but the tanks were crack on both toilets so out with the old and in with the new.

Bo making his first cut on the wet saw. This was his job most of the weekend.
The tiling wasn't a job that we wanted to tackle alone, so I called my cousin who is a general contractor. He was nice enough to give up his weekend to come to my house and help us. Bo and I couldn't have done it without W. Thank you so much W!!! We appreciate it. W did have to hear me say about a hundred times that on HGTV it would have been done already or HGTV doesn't do it that way.

We also celebrated Brother's birthday! He is much older than this picture makes him appear. I will always love being around my brother no matter how old he gets.
I know. I know. You want to see the finished tile floors. Let me tell you this tile has to be one of the best deals I have ever found. We purchased it at Surplus Warehouse when they had there yearly sale in May.

This is our new kitchen tile. It is a very nice 16" tile.

Our new bathroom tile which is a nice neutral 12" tile.

Big Dog

This is Simplicity 4993 and once finished it it is hard to photograph because of its size. The quilt is almost as tall as me and very heavy. I pretty much followed the directions except that I did not add a mouth. I tried several times and they just didn't look right. I hope that Nephew enjoys this.
Warning : Don't ask your husband to help you clip the seams because this is what you may get.

I don't know what I was thinking. I thought that since we were watching the Olympics Bo could help me. I showed him what to do and I asked him if he understood. He said he did. I went back to clipping my seams thinking everything was okay, and this is what I saw when I looked up...I was in shock! How could this highly intelligent man not understand these simple directions. Luckily, it was on the back and no one will notice. I am glad that he helped. It made this process go so much faster.

USA! USA!

Bo and I spent most of the weekend watching the Olympic games. What I saw of the opening ceremonies was gorgeous. I can't wait to watch more events tonight. One of my favorite events won't be on until 3 a.m. I guess I will have to miss sincronized diving.

I Survived

Last night was Bunko and our theme was Survivor Island, which I have never seen an episode. I really wasn't into the theme, but I was into this. . .
It is a Button/Pin Maker.
My friend Allison from That's Mellifluous got it for her birthday. She deminstrated how it worked before Bunko. I was amazed!! It is easy to use and could see using it for many things. Thanks, Allison for showing us the button maker and allowing me to use your picture.

Finally Finished

Yes, I finally finished this top. I HATE and I repeat HATE this v-neck on Simplicity 9853. The next time I make Nephew some pajamas I will use a new patter from Simplicity 2826. Maybe the round neck will be easier.

One Active Weekend!

Bo has said before, "Maybe our life will slow down once we get married." Our wedding came and went and our life didn't slow down. Then he said, "Maybe our life will slow down when you finish school." Didn't happen. Now he is saying, "Maybe our life will slow down when we get finished with our house." I just wish he would stop saying it.

This weekend I went home to a Bridal Shower which I actually enjoyed very much.

Then I took my sewing machine Darrell's Sew and Vac. Finally someone actually believed that my sewing machine wasn't working correctly. He actually stayed a half hour after they closed to make sure it was fixed. But I left the power cord to my sewing machine in the trunk of my mother's car. I have a great mother and she put it in the mail today.

When I got home,I check my email and found out that I had won a book from Wendy at One Day at a Time.

We also got a Wii Fit this weekend and all i can say is WOW! this is fun.
