Happy Birthday!

Tonight we celebrated my brother-in-law's birthday. My mother-in-law made the birthday cake! It was wonderful! As you can see we all enjoyed it.

And the winner is...

Bo sat down his X-box controller long enough to draw a number out of the bucket for my giveaway. I don't know if he realized what he was doing, but he willingly helped out. And the winning number is ... 3.
The third comment on my about the columns would be Mother. Mother just let me know where you would like your gift certificate from. Thanks everyone for commenting and thanks Bo for drawing the winning number.

By the way the column is going to stay brown. Mostly because Bo doesn't want to paint it again. We'll see how long that last.

Garden Update

Bo is showing off our new hula beach umbrella that we got tonight at Rite Aid. We got the umbrella and a bottle of nail polish for $1.80 with tax. I love coupons.

All of this came out of our garden tonight and there is plenty more where they came from.

These elephant ears were planted just this year. I am amazed how much they have grown. Bo and I have been warned that they will take over your yard. We really want them to grow thick and tall in hope to keep our bricks cooler in the summer heat. We'll see how that works.

Column Choice

Okay, I hate the way these are laid out on this page, but I'm going to have to just live with it because I can't seem to fix it.
The off white column is the old column and the brown one is the color I painted it tonight. I have dreamed of painting this column brown ever since I painted the mantel brown. The brown is not glossy the paint had not dried when I took the picture. Now, I don't know if I like it.

So you get a chance to vote. Let me know which one you like better the Brown or the Off White one!
One color will win and one comment will be a lucky winner. Bo and I will have a giveaway on Thursday at 6:00pm central. So leave your comment by then and best of luck.
The prize will be a $5.00 gift card to CVS or Walgreen's. Your choice. Best of Luck.

Homemade Salsa

My attempt at making salsa. It doesn't taste exactly like I wanted it to, but what should I expect I combined several recipes into one. I think I'm missing something. The tomatoes and peppers came from our garden. If you have any salsa recipe ideas I would love to hear them. I was really happy with the texture the taste is just off a bit.

Out with the Red. In with the Green Grey

Bo allowed me to paint his dinning room when we were dating and not even engaged. I painted it this red color. Needless to say I'm so tired of it. Our dining room is so small and this color looks way more formal than our house is. The light fixture is also going to go. We got a new ceiling fan because this room is always so hot.
This is what the new color looks like after a tinted primer and two coats of paint. I think that it looks like Grey Mud, but the color is growing on me. This paint is suppose to be two shades darker than our living room but it looks nothing like our living room. Bo said that if we don't like it we can repaint it in two years. I don't know why two years but he wants us to live with it a while.

ALS and CVS

Some of you know how much I love CVS.
Now I love them even more because they are doing a 3 week campaign to raise money to fund research for ALS. I emailed CVS to let them know how happy I was with this campain. Lucille Bush, Director of Community Relations, told me that since 2002 CVS has raised $15 million with 100% going directly to ALS research. She continued to tell me that their goal this year was $5 million so next time you are at CVS remember every dollar you give is helping people like my dad who suffer from this terrible disease. So thank you CVS for bringing awareness to this disease and thank you to all who donate.

If I had three wishes and I couldn't have 3 more wishes they would be:

1. A cure for ALS

2. A free lifetime pass to Disney World

3. A paid for beach house at Panama City Beach.

If I couldn't get these three wishes I would be satisfied with just the first one.

So what would your three wishes be?

Yard Sale Fun

Nephew enjoyed himself when he came to our yard sale this weekend. Other peoples stuff became new toys for him. Here he is wearing my Brother-in-laws slippers. I think maybe the size 13s are a little to big.
Doesn't a motorcycle helmet and a boxing glove go together?
My brother trying to catch a nap in between customers.

Bo enjoys running a yard sale, but I don't think we will have one again for a few more years. We are kind of burnt out on them.

Updated Cedar Chest

Okay lets act like the big reveal is suppose to be at the end of this post. So go read the information to the last picture first and work your way back to this one for this post to make sense. Blogger is such a pain sometimes.
This is my finished and updated bench.
Our room is suppose to have a travel theme and not a nautical theme, but it keeps on leaning nautical more than travel. This bench is very comfortable and I have thought of ways I could make it better the next I do this.

This is how my cedar chest started out. This was Maw's cedar chest and I think it used to live in her basement, then it lived in storage for a while, and then my old apartment. Needless to say it has been around for a while, but the top has seen its better days. Bo and I use it hold blankets. This is going to sound odd but one night I had a dream on how I was going to make this chest look better by covering a board with foam, batting and fabric. The next morning I told Bo about my dream and he was okay with the idea. Bo was even kind of enough to help me. It actually took him longer to put together his new work bench than it took us making the new cushion. Now go back up to the big reveal.

Long Weekend Again!

Happy Birthday Jefferson Davis! Actually, his isn't his birthday until June 3rd, but the State of Alabama celebrates the first Monday in June and I get the day off work. So again I say, Happy Birthday Jeff Davis, and thanks for the long weekend.

I had numerous projects planned for this weekend. Sad to say none had anything to do with sewing. The first project I tackled was our patio furniture. This was my Maw's patio furniture. It sat on her breezeway and then her screened in porch for many years. It had been well loved. When Maw moved it end up on my brother's back porch for 3 years without anyone even sitting in it. I got it when my brother decided to get rid of this set. Needless to say they had rust on them and not the best shape. Bo and I took them apart , sanded them down and repainted them.
This is how they look today. I LOVE the color, and these two rockers are super comfortable.

My mom bought me an umbrella, but I won't be able to use it in the table because there is no umbrella hole in the table. I'm going to try an umbrella stand beside the table and see if that works.
Now that I have it all finished it is way to hot to go outside. It was 91 today. I'll show you the rest of my projects later in the week.
