Thinking of Christmas

Just wanted to let you know that Christmas is only SIX months away. Boll Weevil was checking out the toys at Toys R Us, and I think he picked out something he likes.

VBS this week

This is what Boll Weevil thought of VBS this week. Before the end of the program each night he was out like a light. Maybe next year he will get more out of it.

Easy Week Night Meal

I was looking at old cookbooks the other night and I saw that there was a note beside the Tex Mex Pork Chops that said, "we both liked". So Bo and I put it on the menu. We both forgot how good this really was. We found it in Favorite Brand Name Match a Meal Quick & Easy Cookbook.
Tex Mex Pork Chops:
4 Boneless Pork Chops about 1lb
1 Teaspoon Vegetable Oil
1.5 cups of Salsa
1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 shredded Cheddar cheese

Heat oil in nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Brown chops on one side, about 2 minutes. Turn chops over. Add Salsa, chilies and cumin to skillet; mix well. Lower heat, cover and barely simmer for 8 minutes. Uncover; top each chop with 1 tablespoon cheese. Cover and simmer an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese melts. Serve immediatly.

I place the pork chops on top of white rice and topped with chow mein noddles, for a little extra crunch.

This recipe was wonderful and I will add it to my regular rotation. Let me know if you try it and like it.

VBS Week

We have VBS this week so it leaves very little time for anything else. This is the first time I have attended VBS since I was a kid and I am LOVING it. I forgot how much fun it actually was.

Easy Week Night Meal

Sunday night is usually Bo's night to cook and he loves to experiment. We got a grill pan a few weeks ago and we have really enjoyed using it. Bo used the Pillsbury 5 Ingredient 15 Minute recipe cookbook. He found this recipe for Grilled Steak with Pineapple Salsa. Let me just say that this was wonderful. We have this again some time soon.

A Shirt Redo - Gone Wrong

I should start by saying I didn't do this because Boll Weevil needs clothes but because I wanted an outfit with Bo's university on it and well I'm not paying that kind of money for an outfit Boll Weevil will only wear a few times. So I thought I would make one out of a 4t t-shirt.

This is my experimental shirt ($1.00 on clearance) I thought it was pretty cute.
Things I learned:
1. Buy one with a smaller pattern on the front
2. Mark your pattern on the inside
3. Use as many of the finished seems as possible
4. Figure out how to get the snap area worked out so it will actually fit.
5. Boll Weevil enjoys me making stuff for him. When I tried this on him the first time and I got excited that it fit, and he just laughed and smiled for me. I just love my little boy.
Not so bad laying down, but you can see were it is tight.

With him standing up you can tell it doesn't fit correctly. Bo took this picture while he was talking on the phone to BFF and he wasn't happy with me for asking him to take it. Oh well!

So do you have any suggestions or ideas on how I could make this better?

Weekend Round Up

My parents came to visit and Bo and my dad hung the ceiling fan in Boll Weevil's room.
Bo did the manual labor and my dad read the instruction. They really enjoyed their time together.

My mom watched Boll Weevil for me which means they sleep on the couch while I folded clothes.

Thanks Mom and Dad for coming we all really enjoyed our day with you.

One Fire Cracker

The outfit I made Boll Weevil for the 4Th of July. He wore it and looked cute in it. But as soon as we got to his Gran's house he got something on it, and had to change.
He wasn't a very cooperative model.

The shorts are made from a discontinued Simplicity pattern.

Heaven is for Real

Apparently, I must be really interested in Heaven lately because this is the second book I have read on it lately. I have to admit this one was much better than the first.

This is actually the book I thought I was reading the first time, but sadly it wasn't.

I first heard about Heaven is for Real when Kathy Lee Gifford talked about it on her show with Hoda. Then a co-worker had just finished it and I borrowed it from her.

I have to say this book was really uplifting and amazing. It was told like it had come from a child and his parents. This book was easy to read and captivating which means it didn't take me long at all to finish. Which is important when having a 5month old. I would highly recommend this book to some one who is dealing with loss, searching for something or just needs to hear a good story.

From Books-a-Million:
A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven.

"Heaven Is for Real "is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.

Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.

Getting Measured

I took Boll Weevil to the local sewing shop to be measured. He really wanted to figure out what they were doing to him and he was really glad when his dad came to pick him up and he could go. What he doesn't know is that this is just the first of many many fittings.

Carry All Bag

Since having a baby I seem to have a lot more things that stay in the back of my van. And they are made of cloth and I got tired of washing them all the time from getting dirty by staying the car.

I have one of these shopping cart covers which is big and bulky and even though it says that it folds into itself and stay wrapped up it doesn't.

When I'm not using the shopping cart. I love to use the Baby Bjorn which also stays in my car.

My solution...

This is basically a large drawl string bag. I took 3/4 of a yard of fabric and sewed it selvage to selvage, made a casing at the top, and put ribbon in the casing. I had all the material at my house. It took less than 15 min. and now I have a solution for keeping my baby stuff together in the car.
