Bathroom Update

I know it seems like our home projects go on for ever. Well, they really do. We are as completed as we are going to be for right now, but sometime in the spring I would like to buy some molding, stain it and frame the mirror. But until that time I'm going to call the bathroom complete. Here are a few pictures of it. You can't tell it from these pictures but we painted the cabinet and added new hardware. The knobs are elephants. It is amazing what a new light fixture and hardware can do for a room. We probably redid this room for $250.00 and it looks amazing.

New Storage Building

I guess this means Bo and I officially have to much stuff. Actually the old building beside the new one smells like gas and motor oil because the is were the lawn mower and manly out door stuff is keep and who really wants to store the Christmas decorations next to that.

i finally gave in and broke down and agreed to another building. The new one is slightly larger than the old one because we just didn't understant how it was going to made. Our fault not theirs. Now I have a new building that I'm sure it will get filled with time, and then I'm moving to a larger house.

Long Weekend

There was a lot of work going on at my house this weekend. Bo and his cousin painted the nursery and the hall bath room.

The nursery is three colors so it took a little longer than expected. The waves still need to be connected and we are thinking about putting some white caps on some of them. Touch up and trim paint are next on the list of things to do.

New light fixture and new color on the wall in the bathroom. The wall got messed up while putting the light up so that will have to be fixed and then trim painted. Then it will be time for decorating.

Linen Closet

The master bath in our house has no linen closet. Actually, if there was one complaint I have about our house it is that it doesn't have enough closets. So the other week when we were at Ikea we decided to buy some bookshelves and place them on the ledge above our bath tub. I will let you know we use the shower way more than we ever use the garden tub. These shelves have worked wonders and they hold so much. They are rather large and in some ways make the room feel smaller, but I can live with that. Next all we have to do is paint this room. I honestly believe our list of fix it projects will never end.

Pool Party

Well, it really wasn't a party, but I finally got to get in my new pool. This picture isn't the best because it started to thunder as soon as I got in the pool. I hope to go swimming today.

Pool Base

After our patio was laid Bo and Cousin started working on our pool base. You see our lot is off by 12 inches so we had to find a way to make our above ground pool even. This is what Cousin came up with.
Bo and Cousin moving the sand one wheelbarrow load at a time. It was extremely hot this day.

Final product. We hope to set up our pool tonight.

Patio Extention

This is what Bo and my cousin did this weekend. They extended our patio to a much more usable size. All of the 12x12 blocks that you see in this picture were laid by Bo and my cousin in 100 degree heat. It looks great!

Bo miss measured and we were three blocks short, but I'd rather be short than have a ton of overage.
Another look at our patio.

New Fence

Bo and I have debated a lot on a new fence, but we took the money and had some one install it this week. Here are a few pictures of our new fence.

Back gate

Front Double gate. Now comes the fun part we have to stain it.

Earth Week

This week is earth week. I have always been a little green. I'm going to try and show you ways that we are going green around our house, but we know that there is always ways to improve.
First Up:
This weekend Bo and I planted two trees in the front yard. We decided to plant pear trees. We hope in a few years to have some fruit. I have been calling my them my mom and dad's names. I think this is funny, but my mom does not..
I bet you are wondering about the umbrella in the front yard. Well, our dirt is horrible and it took us a long time to dig two holes and the sun was hot. Our solution was to bring our patio umbrella round front to block the sun while we dug.

Hanging A Mirror A Tutorial

1. Nicely Ask your brother and husband to hang it for you.
2. Identify the location you want it hung. Make sure you have all of the right tools before you start. Because it is a pain to keep on getting more.

3. Measure down from the ceiling to get exact location of nails. After nails are in the wall hang mirror.

4. Step back and check for levelness. At this point we realized our ceiling was not even and the mirror hung lopsided.

5. Repeat above steps. Check for level then step back and admire your work.

6. Clean the mirror.
Thanks Bo and Brother for hanging this really heavy mirror I could have never done it without you.

New Ceiling Fan

I know the designers on every design show on TV would rip it out of the ceiling, but I am leaving it up. I mean for Pete's sake we live in Alabama and its hot here. Bo hates putting up ceiling fans and he really procrastinated on putting this up. Now I can actually feel the air moving in the dining room and hall way. Hopefully, it will help with the power bill too.

Column Choice

Okay, I hate the way these are laid out on this page, but I'm going to have to just live with it because I can't seem to fix it.
The off white column is the old column and the brown one is the color I painted it tonight. I have dreamed of painting this column brown ever since I painted the mantel brown. The brown is not glossy the paint had not dried when I took the picture. Now, I don't know if I like it.

So you get a chance to vote. Let me know which one you like better the Brown or the Off White one!
One color will win and one comment will be a lucky winner. Bo and I will have a giveaway on Thursday at 6:00pm central. So leave your comment by then and best of luck.
The prize will be a $5.00 gift card to CVS or Walgreen's. Your choice. Best of Luck.

Out with the Red. In with the Green Grey

Bo allowed me to paint his dinning room when we were dating and not even engaged. I painted it this red color. Needless to say I'm so tired of it. Our dining room is so small and this color looks way more formal than our house is. The light fixture is also going to go. We got a new ceiling fan because this room is always so hot.
This is what the new color looks like after a tinted primer and two coats of paint. I think that it looks like Grey Mud, but the color is growing on me. This paint is suppose to be two shades darker than our living room but it looks nothing like our living room. Bo said that if we don't like it we can repaint it in two years. I don't know why two years but he wants us to live with it a while.

Yard Sale Fun

Nephew enjoyed himself when he came to our yard sale this weekend. Other peoples stuff became new toys for him. Here he is wearing my Brother-in-laws slippers. I think maybe the size 13s are a little to big.
Doesn't a motorcycle helmet and a boxing glove go together?
My brother trying to catch a nap in between customers.

Bo enjoys running a yard sale, but I don't think we will have one again for a few more years. We are kind of burnt out on them.

Updated Cedar Chest

Okay lets act like the big reveal is suppose to be at the end of this post. So go read the information to the last picture first and work your way back to this one for this post to make sense. Blogger is such a pain sometimes.
This is my finished and updated bench.
Our room is suppose to have a travel theme and not a nautical theme, but it keeps on leaning nautical more than travel. This bench is very comfortable and I have thought of ways I could make it better the next I do this.

This is how my cedar chest started out. This was Maw's cedar chest and I think it used to live in her basement, then it lived in storage for a while, and then my old apartment. Needless to say it has been around for a while, but the top has seen its better days. Bo and I use it hold blankets. This is going to sound odd but one night I had a dream on how I was going to make this chest look better by covering a board with foam, batting and fabric. The next morning I told Bo about my dream and he was okay with the idea. Bo was even kind of enough to help me. It actually took him longer to put together his new work bench than it took us making the new cushion. Now go back up to the big reveal.

New Shelves

While my mom and I were at Disney on Ice Bo and my dad put up my Ikea shelves in my sewing room. I think Bo and Dad had fun. I appreciate them during this for me. Now if I could only find the time to fill them up.

Measure Once Cut Twice

Bo and I get that saying confused sometimes and yes it does cost us dearly both in time and money. This time we miss measured the middle curtain rod. But now all is fixed and my sewing room curtains are hung. I just love this fabric. It was on sale for a $1.99 a yard, and I just couldn't pass it up.
I left extra ribbon in case I wanted to change the height of the curtain.

If I totally want to block the sun.

Sorry, It took longer than I estimated

Okay, this is the color of my walls in my sewing room. I had painted one wall yellow, but it didn't look good at all. It took me several extra coats of paint to cover it. I still want to paint the trim, and then work on the decorating my room.
This is the fabric I'm going to use to make my curtains in my sewing room. I just love it, and I got it on sale for a $1.99 a yard.
Bo and I were off work today, and we had two guys come out to give us estimates on counter tops for our kitchen. We don't ever stop thinking about what we can do next to our house.
I have done a little sewing. Basically I have made pipping for six stockings. I HATE making pipping. It just seems like I'm not getting anything done quickly.
The only other thing happening in my life is that my ghost wisdom tooth is bothering me. I know what you are thinking ... what is a ghost wisdom tooth? I thought the same thing when my dentist told me that I had one. Basically, I had my wisdom tooth removed like 13 years ago and occasionally it feel like I still have a wisdom tooth trying to break threw the skin. My dentist has done x-rays and you can still see a very distinct outline of my one tooth that bothers me and not the other 3. He said that this is very rare, but there wasn't anything that they could do. It will bother my for about a week and then it will stop for a couple of months.

I'm going to take a blog break to paint my sewing room. I hope to have some pictures Sunday night. I can't wait to have this room finished.

Saturday Happenings

I have been productive today. I finished 5 pairs of pants for Nephew, and cut out Bo's Halloween costume. I hope to have it finished by Friday. Wish me luck!
And this is what my sewing room looks like today. Thanks to Bo and his father. Next up is paint.
