Thanksgiving Weekend

Bo and I had a great Thanksgiving Weekend. We spent time with both of our families.
We went to Walmart for Black Friday shopping got all of the stuff we went for. Bo likes to organize the people around the item he went for. He did see some woman take a Rock Band from a kid who had been in line for an hour, that saddened me.
I ended my Thanksgiving weekend by spending three hours at the Dr.'s office. Turns out I have bursitis of the hip. This is a terrible pain. The meds I am taking for it are making me very sleepy and grouchy.

I don't feel good!

Sorry for the lack of post this week. I haven't felt good at all. I have a stupid head cold. I go to work and as soon as I come home I lay down on the couch and sleep. I do have some things to share with you, but that will have to wait until after Thanksgiving because I plan to eat, shop, and visit with family the next couple of days.
Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

Ornaments

Several weeks ago I made two dozen marbleized ornaments. I made some with the colors of Christmas, Penn State, Alabama and Auburn. Who doesn't want a football team themed ornament. I think one day Bo and I are going to have a tree with just College football team ornaments on it.
I had one problem the paint didn't cover completely or when I drained the ornament the paint cracked. Any idea what I did wrong? I cleaned the ornaments with vinegar and I let them dry completely before painting.

A dozen of my ornaments. I thought they just looked cool in the box.

Maybe when the light shines threw them the paint cracking may make them look good.
I can't wait to give these out to my family members. My mother-in-law picked out several that she liked.

Whoopie Pies

My aunt was nice enough to bring me some whoopie pies from PA.
Bo and I already have eaten some for dessert tonight.
I hope to freeze some of them, but I'm sure it won't be long before they are gone.

Alabama Shakespeare Festival

Thank you Mr. Blount for giving Alabama such a beautiful park.
Bo and I went to ASF this weekend. We both had so much fun just relaxing and enjoying the day. We watched the geese for a while. This goose kind of got tired of me taking pictures of it and let me know by squawking. After that I stopped taking its picture.

Bo enjoying the day.

I usually don't like pictures of myself, but Bo took this picture of me and I really like it. It feels very touristy to me, almost like I'm not in Alabama.

Thatching on the roof of one of the buildings in the park.

Bo and I both enjoyed the park. We both wondered why we don't go there more often. We have gone there several times to see plays, but we don't usually go there just to enjoy its beauty. We hope to have a picnic there in the spring. Amazing something can be in your town and you don't take advantage of them.

Roasted Peanuts

Okay, I know that you are probably tired of hearing about peanuts. So I promise that this is my last post about them for a while.

This year at the parade we picked up a ton of green peanuts. I mean more than we could really carry, and we really didn't know what to do with them. We all ate a few at the parade, but I mean I had 2 and half quart size bags of peanuts that I didn't want to be put in the trash.

So, Bo roasted them for me. We were really not sure if it was going to work, but it did. He put them in the oven at 350 for 40 min., turning them often. They came out great! After he shelled and pealed them we had 3/4 of a pound of FREE roasted peanuts. You just can't beat that. Especially since I have several recipes to use them in this holiday season.

Peanut Festival

I know that I have shared pictures from the Peanut Festival Parade, but blogger hasn't wanted to let me share pictures from the fair with you.

Bo and I enjoyed a night of fun with my family. Here we are watching Nephew take a ride on the elephants. Nephew wasn't tall enough to ride the rides by himself so the adults in the group took turns riding with him. This ride wasn't our turn.

I loved this door that was displayed in the arts and crafts exhibit. It won second place. Bo and I say it every year, but next year we are going to enter the photo contest. It is a really big exhibit at the fair and next year we hope to participate.
A trip to the fair isn't complete without eating. There are so may local vendors and food to sample that there is no way you can eat it all in one night. One of the things that my mom and I love is the hot & fresh kettle corn and we have to get some. Our group shared this bag and what little was left I ate the next day for breakfast.

A fair would not be a complete visit with out a corn dog from the corn dog man. I only had to wait in line 15-20 min to pay $6.00 for two corn dogs, but man they were good.

Elephant Ears

Bo and I didn't eat any Elephant Ears at the fair this year. I would rather have a funnel cake any day over an Elephant Ear. Moving on from fair food, I decided to share with you some Elephant Ears that Bo grew this year. I had the idea that we needed to have elephant ears on one side of our house so that it would help the brick stay cooler when the sun is beating on it. It seems to have helped some.

Bo pointing out just how tall his elephant ears got this year. I have to say these have to be one of the easiest plants to grow.
Bo planted six bulbs and they all grew very well, but this one had to be the biggest one. I think these are absolutely beautiful plants. They seem so tropical to me.

I have been warned by several people that they will eventually take over my yard and I will get tired of them and want to get rid of them. Until that time happens I will love looking at them. Thank you Bo for planting them and taking care of them. Can't wait to see what they look next year.

Southern Savers Workshop

Southern Savers is a new website to me, but I greatly enjoyed the workshop tonight. My friend Amanda asked me to go with her. Even though I already use coupons and look for deals, I still learned a few things. I even won a prize for guessing the closest amount for the cost of four items. The workshop was well worth the $10.00 it cost. Thanks Amanda for invinting me to go along.

Peanut Festival Parade

Bo watched his first peanut parade this weekend.
To start the parade was the dumping of the peanuts out of the cement truck on to the road.
Nephew and Brother picked up peanuts on the street.
These were some of the best green peanuts I have ever eaten.
I even got into the act of picking up peanuts.
We ended up with two quarts full of peanuts.

The parade had huge gaps in it. So we ended up not staying for the entire thing. It was really long. We did have fun sitting out on a sunny day with our family. We saw several people we knew both in the parade and watching the parade.

And we have a winner...

Last night was pajama bunko. It was a lot of fun to play bunko in my Mickey Mouse Christmas pajamas, even if it was a little weird driving around town in them. Anyway, I came out the big winner after a bunko off. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner keeps repeating in my head. I have no idea what that means or where it came from, but Bo says it all the time.

Turning 51!

No, I’m not turning 51, but a friend of mine at work did today. Happy Birthday!
It was amazing you would think in this time of recession people wouldn’t want to celebrate, but we celebrated her birthday with grandeur. Instead of a birthday cake I brought a fruit and cheese tray and a veggie tray as a healthy alternative. One of her friends surprised her with a bouquet of flowers and another is making her dinner tonight. It is rumored that they are going to use the good china. I made the comment today that she was parting like she was turning 50 instead of 51.
It got me to thinking, why in this year of recession, partisan politics, and tragic things happening all the time are we making a big deal out of birthdays.
I mean for my 32 birthday this year I had a party. Okay it was my family and Bo’s family, but I still made homemade lasagna and had birthday cake. I consider that a party.
Then I realized as much as we as human being want to be cynical there is just something special about celebrating. Especially when it is a birthday because for that one day you remind the birthday person how special they are to you. The bad stuff is pushed to the back. Both the party goers and the Birthday Person have a few moments to reflect on the fact that life is good and the years in between the beginning and end of the decade are what make those special round number birthdays so special.

Fun With Wigs!

Yesterday, we went to Wal-mart looking for some Halloween deals. We found all of this stuff for 75%. I think we got some good deals especially on the wigs.
Bo and I both had fun trying on the wigs. I have no clue what I was doing here.

Bo just looks so funny. I think he looks like a member of an 80's hair band.

Cross Stitch

I wanted to make a quick and easy project. I thought about some cross stitch kits that I had. I immediately thought of this Lightning McQueen kit. My nephew has a small tree in his room at Christmas and I thought this would be a cute ornament for him.
But instead I found this kit.
And I had a Santa that was almost finished. All I have to do are the outlines and the detail work. I think it will be great to finish this project. It will be a UFO that I have forgetten that I even had.

I'll show you the finished project in a few days.

Cucos

I once read that to help keep a marriage fresh a couple should experience new things together. One of the suggestions the article made was to go to a new restaurants. So Bo and I decided to start to try a new restaurants at least once a month. Friday night we went to a new restaurant. Okay we have actually been to Cucos before, but it was like 4 years ago and they have moved to a new location. So it counts as a new restaurant.

Bo had some kind of burrito.
I had a shrimp and mushroom enchilada.
Cucos was okay and I don't know if we will go back for a while. Bo didn't say much during dinner. I think the people behind us had a more interesting conversation than whatever I was saying.
I don't know if I can say experiencing a new restaurant was everything the article said, but we made a list of new places to try.

Trunk or Treat

Bo and I participated in trunk or treat at church this year. This year our trunk was suppose to look like a pumpkin patch. I wore my pumpkin costume again this year. Next year I'm going to make costumes for Bo and I. If he could ever decided what he wants to be. I'm thinking a princess and prince charming.
Bo and I also had to man a game at the festival before the trunk or treat. We were at a game called Star Chaser which was just like Plinko. Plinko is much hard to explain to children than you would think. Also I was surprised by how many adults didn't know what Plinko was!

I hope everyone had a good Halloween .
