Look Whooooos Got a New Pair of Pants

I tried out a new pattern for a pair of pants for Boll Weevil, and they were super easy. I made them in about an hour which means I see more in his future. I made a size 6-12 months. The pattern is called Britches & Bloomers, but I forget who it is by.

This is not the shirt he is going to wear with these pants. I still have to make it.

Backside view.

A better view of the pants & you can see the cuffs.

And he was done with his photo shoot.

New Pillow

Call me a bad parent if you would like, but sometimes I let Boll Weevil watch baby learning videos. Let me just tell you he is interested in them for about ten minutes and then he is done. If you would like to know his favorite video is Baby Can Sign "Playtime". It actually holds his interest for 15 minutes.
On with the story - no more justification- when Boll Weevil watches his video he likes to lay down on the floor and he usually uses one of the pillows from the couch for his head. I though that he needs his own. I had a travel pillow that I didn't use that often, and late Sunday I made him a cover for it.
He really enjoyed having his own pillow. As you can see.

I made the pillow case out of some left over flannel and some minkie dot that I had in my stash.

When time allowes I may have to make him a few more.

Weekend Up Date

I had Saturday to myself at home. The one think on my agenda was sewing. Well, actually I cut out but that is one step closer to sewing. I got 3 pairs of pants cut out. Only one pair is for Boll Weevil the others are gifts. One pillow case cut out, and one Halloween costume. Boll Weevil is going to be the pumpkin in the picture above. I know that pumpkins have been over done for little kids but I just love it. I hope to get started sewing this week.

Roll Tide Outfit

Now I couldn't let this football season go by and not make a team related outfit for my little guy. I used Creations By Michie # 118 pattern. I have used this pattern before to make shorts but never the diaper shirt. I have to say the size 6 month shorts fit Boll Weevil great the shirt is just a little short and sometimes you can see his belly. I do love the flare of the shirt it makes it more of a shirt for a baby and not the big boy he is becoming.
This outfit didn't stop him from trying to climb on the furniture. So I think he would give it high marks.
He loves the camera.

Front view of the outfit. His dad is helping him stand, but in reality it won't be long until he will be standing on his own. He can pull up on almost anything, and we have to watch him all the time. Roll Tide.

Making Ornaments

Boll Weevil seemed all excited when I sat the ornaments out in front of him, but when I started to paint his hand to make the ornaments all the fun stopped. We will try again closer to Christmas.

Simple Shorts

These shorts are made from the Creations by Michie pattern number 118. They are a size 6 month and fit Boll Weevil perfectly. This pattern was simple and easy to make. I hope to make more in the future.

Please ignore the droll Boll Weevil is teething.

A Shirt Redo - Gone Wrong

I should start by saying I didn't do this because Boll Weevil needs clothes but because I wanted an outfit with Bo's university on it and well I'm not paying that kind of money for an outfit Boll Weevil will only wear a few times. So I thought I would make one out of a 4t t-shirt.

This is my experimental shirt ($1.00 on clearance) I thought it was pretty cute.
Things I learned:
1. Buy one with a smaller pattern on the front
2. Mark your pattern on the inside
3. Use as many of the finished seems as possible
4. Figure out how to get the snap area worked out so it will actually fit.
5. Boll Weevil enjoys me making stuff for him. When I tried this on him the first time and I got excited that it fit, and he just laughed and smiled for me. I just love my little boy.
Not so bad laying down, but you can see were it is tight.

With him standing up you can tell it doesn't fit correctly. Bo took this picture while he was talking on the phone to BFF and he wasn't happy with me for asking him to take it. Oh well!

So do you have any suggestions or ideas on how I could make this better?

Carry All Bag

Since having a baby I seem to have a lot more things that stay in the back of my van. And they are made of cloth and I got tired of washing them all the time from getting dirty by staying the car.

I have one of these shopping cart covers which is big and bulky and even though it says that it folds into itself and stay wrapped up it doesn't.

When I'm not using the shopping cart. I love to use the Baby Bjorn which also stays in my car.

My solution...

This is basically a large drawl string bag. I took 3/4 of a yard of fabric and sewed it selvage to selvage, made a casing at the top, and put ribbon in the casing. I had all the material at my house. It took less than 15 min. and now I have a solution for keeping my baby stuff together in the car.

Way Late Mother's Day

I had written this very interesting post right after mother's day, and then when I went to post it I realized I had lost it. So these picture of the gifts I gave my mom and mother-in-law just had to wait until I was ready to post.

So here they are...

My mother's gift. Her grand kids call her Mawly. So my brother and and I and our children spelled out Mawly for her. You should try finding a frame for 5 pictures to be inserted into. I couldn't. And I'm sorry Mom I couldn't afford to have a special one made for you. So I just added some flower pictures that I took several years ago on a trip we took. She loved it. She wants to put it above her double doors leading outside. I would like to let you know that some of my models would not cooperate with me. So the pictures aren't the best of them. Yes, my niece E is crying in picture and she wouldn't hold up her L.

This one is for my mother-in-law. We have started calling her Gran. Bo and I both think that this name really fits her. Since I was only working with one child for this gift and he was my own I could take as many pictures as I wanted to of him. But he got tired after several shot so I really only got one picture with each letter. I love the way this turned out.

Bo was suppose to take Boll Weevil's picture with the M-O-M, but I haven't seen it yet. I guess I'll get it next year for Mother's day. (Hint Hint)

Hand Made Bibs

A co-worker of Bo's made these for us as a baby present. I can only imagine how much time she must have spent making them. They are wonderful, and match the theme of our nursery.

Happy Easter

I know it is a little late, but I still wanted to wish you a Happy Easter.

The blue bunny is one of Boll Weevil's new favorite toys. He talks to it all the time.

JoJo's new blanket

Before Boll Weevil was born I made a blanket for my niece, Jo Jo, but I haven't seen her to give it to her. I gave it to her this weekend, and according to her mom she just loves it. It was blanket kit from Joann Fabrics. I lost the pattern and so the squares aren't exactly like it was suppose to be.

As you can see in this picture Boll Weevil is using it to prop up his head. Jo Jo is in the blue and white. The other little girl, AG, is a second cousin. All three of them had fun playing together. Several times I saw AG laying on and playing with the blanket I made for Jo Jo. I think this is the perfect size for little kids. I have made a few before and I learned to make sure that the seams with satin in them are gone over several times or they will fray.

Oliver + S Pattern

When my aunt was visiting I convinced her to make Boll Weevil a few outfits. We went to the local smock shop and purchased some fabric and the Oliver + S Pattern Tea Party Sundress + Bloomers. This was the first time either one of us had worked with an Oliver + S Pattern. We both liked it and went together pretty easy. We did make some modification to the bloomers. Instead of making our own bias tape for the leg openings we used single fold bias tape that I already had. This made the pants go together so much quicker. Then we appliqued a coordinating onesie. Let me just say Boll Weevil looks adorable in these outfits. He wasn't in the mood to try on clothes last night or have his picture taken.

I should add that another aunt monogrammed this onesie for us. She also monogrammed a matching burp cloth.

Finally a model

I finally have a model to wear the clothes that I made.

This first one was made for my nephew several years ago, but he couldn't wear it when I finished it. So Baby Bo is now wearing it.
This is Baby Bo's gown that he came home from the hospital in. It fits him much better now.
This is Baby Bo's Easter outfit. He just looked adorable, but he hated getting his picture taken.

New Addition

Sorry, I haven't had much time to post lately. Actually time seems to move very quickly right now. Ever since my little boy came into the world. I hope to get back to regular postings, but I don't know when that will be. Until then this is a picture of my new bundle of joy.

sewings

More burp clothes. I think these are the last ones that I will be making for the baby for now. I used up some of the scraps of fabric that I had at my house.

Baby Shower

Bo's family had a baby shower for us this weekend. His family and friends were very generous towards our new baby.
My brother and sister-n-law got us this plate to hang in the babies room. I almost started to cry when I opened it because Bo and I have prayed for our child and we know that other people have prayed for us to have a child also. My sister-in-law told me that she had got this plate for me before and my brother accidentally broke it so she had to go back and buy another one. I have a very thoughtful sister-in-law. I'm going to hang this above the light switch in the baby's room so I see it every time I go in his room.

Another gift just made me laugh.
I was handed two gifts that were wrapped the same and I asked if they were togeter and Bo's aunt said no one was specifically from Bo's uncle for us. I thougth this was a little odd because I wondered what a guy was doing sending a baby gift. Inside was this bib. Bo is a CPA just like his uncle so they both have the same sence of humor. When Bo saw it he loved it. I guess my son will have no choice, but to be a CPA.
