One Non-Stop Weekend

We finally found a couch after going to 9 different furniture stores. The couch pictured here is the winner. It was delivered to our house yesterday, and it is so comfortable. I actually slept on it last night. I was extremely tired.
Now, we have to pick a wall color. We have decided against all of these colors. I love those tiny trials that Benjamin Moore sells.
I did make time to sew. I finished these two pairs of pajamas for my nephew. They are way to big for him now, so I'm going to keep them for Christmas.

We also made time to go see Indiana Jones. I thought that it was pretty good, but I haven't seen the first three so think I missed some of the sub plot lines.
We also got two new rugs one for the living room and one for the dinning room. We also trimmed the bushes in the front of our house, grilled steaks, my parents came to visit, and we went to church. I can't think of anything else that we did.
I hope everyone else had a good weekend.

Memorial Day

When I was in seventh grade we had to memorize poems, I mean lots and lots of poems. One that I remember the most is In Flanders Fields. Since today is Memorial Day I think it is approprate to post it.

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Re-Cap of Law and Order

Unless you would like a re-cap of 3 hours of Law and Order from last night and my 30 minute conversation with my mom, I've got nothing to share. I was tired!!

Another Tuesday

I have nothing to show or talk about today. I haven’t been able to balance my time very well lately.

I did go to sewing class last night, but I don’t have anything to show for it. It was one of the nights that I really went just to talk and catch up with my friends.

When I got home, Bo did help me make an Alabama Fleece Throw. He helped because we had to get it done so his mom could give it as a gift on Thursday. These throws go so much faster when two people work on them together.

No Sewing This Weekend

I didn't have time to sew this weekend, but I was still productive.

Waking up before dawn to have a yard sale. It was a slow day, but we sold almost everything that we had. My brother came up and put items in the yard sale. I really enjoyed seeing him.

Oh! I forgot to mention that we sold our couch at the yard sale so now we are sitting on two recliners. So Saturday night, after taking a four hour nap, we went to looking for a couch. This is the one we really like, but we live in a small house not a McMansion making this couch way to big for our house.
Couch shopping again on Sunday. The front runner on Sunday was sold. Of course. Now, I have to spend Memorial Day Weekend looking for a couch. I have three more stores in the area and then it is off to other towns.

We did have the first pepper on one of our plants. I am going to use it in tomorrow nights dinner.

How did everyone elses weekend go?

Vegtables

Between being sick, laying flooring, and getting ready for a yard sale, I haven't had much time to sew. But I did have time to check on our garden. I decided to post a few pictures of it. Saturday afternoon we are going shopping for a new couch since we are selling ours. After that I hope to work on several sewing projects, but I'll probably just fall asleep.

Roller Coasters

I finally made Julietter Lanvers, Roller Coasters. They were fun and easy to make. I love the Alexander Henry fabric. Now we can pratice our states and capitals, this is actually something that we do.

I've Been Sick

I have been fighting a wicked stomach bug for the last couple of days, but I did start feeling much better this afternoon. I hope to be a 100% by tomorrow.

Making YoYos

Note To Self: Always Read The Directions!
I thought that using these yoyo makers would be easy and self explanatory, but I was wrong! I should have read the directions. Now that I have, everything is much clearer. Once I rip out my mistaker, I think that this will be a fast and easy way to make yoyos. Has anyone else tried these yet?

Aggravating

Ripping out has to be the most aggravating aspect of sewing! I hate it with a passion.
Last night I was at sewing class, and I was told I had to rip out the right side of the lace. All that time wasted. I really just wanted to fix it without it being correct, but I wasn't allowed to do so. I know that I will appreciate it more when I'm finished but it sure is aggravating. By the way, it will be a Babette by Sarah Howard Stone. I would like to be finished with by the end of the month, just so I can cross it off my list of stuff to make. I'm really really tired of it, but must complete it because it so expensive.

I've been tagged!

I feel like I have now officially entered blog land because I got tagged by Shannon at Frogs in a Bucket.

I am suppose to get the nearest book, turn to page 123 and post the 6th, 7th, and 8th sentences.

Well, my nearest book I have is Kissing Babies at the Piggly Wiggly, by Robert Dalby. I haven't even started reading this book, but I did enjoy his book Waltzing at the Piggly Wiggly. I have tried to start reading it, and it is missing the first 22 pages. I'm glad I wasn't suppose to find sentences any of those pages.

So sentence 6, 7, and 8 are the following:

Powell glance down at the notes he'd made while questioning Laurie earlier - notes entitled " Renza Belford Tactics". He promptly proceeded with his wife's suggestions. "Laurie told me all about your shared presidency."

The rules say I'm suppose to tag five people, and I always follow the rules.

1. That's Mellifluous! Allison is in my bunko group and is really cool.

2. Stacy Sews - If it wouldn't have been an article in Sew News that was written by Stacy, I would have never know about sewing blogs. She may be too busy to participate since she has a new little one.

3. Oy With the Poodles Already - I love the name of this blog, and her pictures are great too.

4. Handmade Kate- She takes great pictures and she has a great tutorial on The Sewing Republic that I have on my long list of things to make.

5. Adventures From the Sewing Studio - You should definitely check out her blog on Fridays when she has Flashback Fridays.

If you have been tagged the rules state that you are to post sentences 6, 7, and 8 on page 123 of the nearest book and then tag five other bloggers.

I hope you ladies will participate, but if you don't that is okay with me. I just fullfilled my bloging invitation duties.

Travel Tissue Holders

I know that I have a lot of unfinished projects, but last night I wanted to see something finished immediately, so I made travel tissue holders. I plan on giving them to my mom, grandmother and aunt as a little extra Mother's Day present.

They were easy and fun to make, and an excellent way use up scraps of material. I got the pattern from the Sew Mama Sew Tutorial Contest Entries. If you haven't checked this out you should. I plan to make more projects from these tutorials. The link above is only for one day of tutorials I think that there are six total on their site.

The tutorial I used was Travel Tissue Holders by The Vacuum Queen. She did an excellent job of explaining this project and I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Reusable Grocery Bag

My inspiration
This bag is nice, but I feel odd taking it to stores other than Pubix. It is also kind of boring.

(Bo took these pictures, and he wasn't that excited about doing it, as you can tell. I would have taken more, but he was done after he took the following two.)

My new reusable shopping bag.

What I like about it - It is colorful, a nice height, and it doesn't advertise a particular store.

What I don't like about it - The sides are to wide, it doesn't keep its shape or stand up. These problems could be fixed by making the sides smaller and by using heaver, stiffer fabric.

I plan to make two more this week. I will work on the size, but I have already purchased and cut out cotton fabtric for them.

More Flooring Pictures - The Livingroom

Please ignore the mess! I am posting more pictures of another room with new flooring in it, This time it's the living room. We still need to put down quarter round and then this room will be complete. We are going to paint before we move into another room.

Do you ever sew or do you just buy sewing stuff?

This title could only mean one thing - more fabric and pattern shopping!! I did sew this weekend, but I will have to post those pictures tomorrow.

The first three fabrics will be used to make reusable grocery bags. The Alexander Henry fabric will be used to make some Roller Coasters by Juliette Lanvers. I plan to use them in my sewing room which I hope to redo in the next couple of months. I would say weeks but that would be overly optimistic. I also hope to have a few scraps of it left over to use in an eye spy quilt for my nephew. The last fabric pictured will be used to make a Built by Wendy top. At least this is the plan I have at this moment for these fabrics.

The patterns I purchased. I'm guessing I will more than likely only use three of them. Bo and I play a guessing game on how many of the pattern I purchase will actually get used. I probably use about 25% of them, but I sure do get a lot of inspiration from the envelope covers and the fabrics and layouts that they use. So that more than makes up for having to many patterns.

Nothing New Today

We are laying more flooring today and again tomorrow. I so wish I could sew again soon.

Almost Finished and Never Started

Never Started
I had a goal last night of making a set of Roller Coasters by Juliette Lavnvers, but I didn't. I was tired. I feel asleep around 9, if not earlier, and slept until 7 this morning. I do hope to make a set of Roller Coasters soon.

Almost Finished
I am working on a smocking a bishop dress using the Ellen McCarn pattern Heather. I have a few more hearts to do and then I just have to construct it. That shouldn't take me to long.
